Empowering everyone in Hong Kong to volunteer

Explore our impact

With 1.37 million Hong Kong people living in poverty, it is critical that we each do our part to support communities in need. At HandsOn we harness the spirit to serve in our city by empowering everyone in Hong Kong to volunteer.

Every month, our team runs 200 volunteer activities on the HandsOn calendar as a free service. Each activity mobilizes Hongkongers to support under-resourced local charities and the vulnerable groups they serve. HandsOn provides behind-the-scenes support and trusted advisory to our charity partners year-round, serving as a vital extension of their teams.

The spirit to serve in Hong Kong is stronger than ever, with over 45,000 volunteers in the HandsOn community. They support and connect with tens of thousands of people in need and critical causes every year. We pledge to continue harnessing this people power and growing collective impact in our beloved city.

Our impact 2023

In 2023, the community united as volunteers supported and uplifted thousands in need, finding their own sense of purpose along the way.
HandsOn volunteers gave their time and talent to serve in a variety of ways— empowering through education, uplifting elderly neighbours, sustainability initiatives and more.
Volunteer efforts were far and wide-ranging. From supporting refugee families and individuals experiencing unemployment, to activities protecting Hong Kong‘s nature and coastlines.
Children and teens across Hong Kong were supported through homework help, storytelling, languages, sports, games, and more. Young volunteers were also empowered to give back through service.
Volunteers were a lifeline for many Hong Kong charities, offering vital assistance as well as longer-term skills support across 3,620 service programs.
HandsOn developed social impact programs with more than 60 Hong Kong companies, empowering their volunteers through a range of skilled, impactful and meaningful initiatives.

Client Services S&P Global

Associate Director

For the past three years, S&P Global has partnered with HandsOn Hong Kong as part of our commitment to help build inclusive, sustainable communities. Together, we have been able to contribute over 300 hours of volunteer services to have an impact on local farmland rehabilitation and coastal restoration efforts, as well as extending support and care for Hong Kong’s most vulnerable groups. Working together with shared goals and being able to lean on HandsOn’s expertise was key in empowering our colleagues to put ideas into action and create meaningful change.

Social Worker

Our weekly learning support group is run by a fantastic group of volunteers. HandsOn helps us to recruit passionate volunteers who are interested in serving children with hearing impairments—and who want to give back to the community. Volunteers get involved in homework and study support, languages, English tutoring, and more. Along the way, our services have got so much stronger with their support.

Youth Volunteer Leader

I got the chance to meet new people, which was good for me. It expanded my social circle and I felt less lonely. Volunteering kept me mentally stimulated and added depth to my life. It meant quite a bit of work, but it didn’t feel like a weight on my shoulders — it lifted my spirits!
